Soumya K.K. did her Masters (Biotechnology) from Periyar University, Salem (2004) and Ph.D. in Biotechnology, University of Allahabad, Allahabad (2011). Thesis Title: ““Impact of some environmental stresses on the photosynthetic, physiological and biochemical parameters in some cyanobacteria” Then she joined as a Lecturer in Biotechnology at S.S. Khanna Degree college as a Lecturer in 2011-12. Then she worked at Pineapple research Station as Biotechnologist RA during 2012-13. Then she got awarded the DST-FASTRACK Young scientist fellowship for Postdoctoral research at School of Biosciences during 2013-14 and the project entitled was “Identification of immunomodulatory bioactive molecules from medicinal plants (Rubia cordifolia L., Tylophora indica, Piper longum)” at M.G. University, Kottayam, Kerala. Then she got the Cochin University Postdoctoral fellowhip in 2016-19 and the project entitled as “In vitro and in vivo studies of Simarouba glauca, plant extract/fraction/ pure compound as a potential adjuvant for breast cancer chemotherapy. The aims of this study were to determine whether the crude or fractions or pure compounds of Simarouba glauca, would inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells in vitro or in vivo. Growth of the breast cancer cell lines was measured in vitro. She extracted the plant in seven solvents depending upon the polarity and screening the fractions for antioxidant and the anticancer property in different celllines like MDA-MB-231 and EAC were done and confirmed the results by MTT assay. Macceration followed by Thin Layer Chromatography, Column chromatography, HPLC, LC-MS were performed. Successfully done the meristem culture and callus induction, Antioxidant and antibactereial properties of Simarouba, MIC determination and SEM analysis were also performed prior to go for anti-neoplastic studies.
